OOOHH! I thought it was Sally Ride too. Isn't it horrible that we know of the AMERICAN first woman but the ACTUAL first woman?? I am from Minnesota but I still think that Americans are snobs. :-)

Blueviolet is correct! Valentina Tereshkova was the first woman in space. She was up for 3 days and made 48 orbits around the Earth.
