Open Discussion: Halloween

Halloween 2009
Halloween is a fun time for everyone.  You get to dress up and play pretend and just be silly.  I will admit, that I don't do much for Halloween, but my Fall decorations fit just fine for me. :)  However, I do love passing at goodies to the cute little munchkins that come to my door every year.  I even enjoy looking at some of the parents who try to match their outfits to their little tykes.  What I don't like is when the older kids come to my door with or without costumes and stick a pillowcase in my face.  In my opinion, teenagers are too old for trick-or-treating.  However, if in their mind they just are having fun, then dress up and show some manners.  Halloween "protocol" calls for you to have a costume and say trick-or treat.  If you can't do both of these and end the exchange with a thank-you, please don't come to my house.  What are your feelings on Halloween?  Love it? Hate it?  Grab a latte, put up your feet, and join the discussion!

I hate halloween!!! My kids don't, though, so I'm stuck. But they will freely tell you that "if it weren't for Titi we would never get to go trick or treating" thanks to their aunt bullying me into taking the oldest out when he was almost 2. I had no intention of doing it. Is that bad?

Even now, my kids get to go trick or treating but at the end of the night they pick their 5 favorite things from the bags and the rest GOES AWAY. {Usually with Daddy to his office. LOL}

I can see why people dislike when teenagers trick or treat but I think it's just that things have changed a lot. I'm 19 and the last time I went I was 14, and I didn't mean any harm by it. I went along with my little sister who was 3 at the time and I dressed up and had manners, lol.

So to me it depends on how old the teenager is. 13 is a lot different than 19. and i really do know 19 year olds who still go! I didn't feel weird at all when I went at 13 but started to reconsider when I was 14 and that's why I quit going after that.

I agree with you! I can't stand when teenagers in street clothes come to the door. Get a job!

I do love to take the girls trick or treating, but I must say I love living in the country where I know no one will come ringing my doorbell. Now I don't have to buy the candy...which means I won't be tempted to eat the candy.
