Open Discussion: Nudity in Films

In my mind, there is way too much nudity in films today.  There are so many good stories that could be shared with the younger crowd (and the older without embarrassment) if the nudity would be eliminated.  I know there are many films that "require" nudity to keep the storyline real.  I could argue that, but I'll let it go.  There are other films though, usually comedies, that throw in nudity just for the sake of having in the films.  They know the majority of their audience is men, and of course want to please their audience.  In my mind, however, it is unnecessary and quite hard  to watch, especially with my husband sitting right next to me.  We actually try to steer clear of those films, but now-a-days, it pops up in most film with an R rating.  I know everyone has different opinions on the issue, and I'm interested in hearing yours.  Grab a latte, put up your feet, and join the discussion!

I find that pretty annoying. If they would just leave out a few of those seemingly unnecessary scenes, it could be appropriate.

I think they do that because movies with more restrictive ratings sell more tickets.

I agree. You do not need nudity to sell movies. Tyler Perry has been great at selling out box offices and none his movies have nudity.

I agree that there is gratuitous nudity in films. In horror movies, it's just a cliche. Whoever gets naked first dies first. However, I can't imagine finding it uncomfortable to see nudity in a movie with your spouse sitting next to you. I mean you've seen each other naked countless times. In fact my boyfriend is one of the few people that i don't feel uncomfortable watching films with nudity in them. It's always uncomfortable to watch with my parents and can be awkward to watch with some of my friends, but never my partner.

Ladies, thanks so much for your comments and opinions. I know that everyone feels differently on the subject.

Kristina ~ Thanks for your comment. I think my biggest problem about nudity with my hubby is that my stupid mind can't help but think that he shouldn't be checking anyone out except me. I know it is ridiculous, but what can I say. That is me. I completely agree that it would be even more awkward if it was with my parents. Have a great night.

I can't say that I find nudity (male or female) to be particularly bothersome. In fact, I'd rather have a casually shirtless scene than a gratuitous body-function humor pratfall (not a big fan of fart jokes). As for comfort levels, I'd much rather have a naked body on screen with my husband next to me than most anybody else, especially my mother in law! *grin*
