Are We There Yet????

Despite how much you love you kids, there is only a certain amount of whining a mother can take.  Under normal circumstances, you can leave the room or distract them with another task to keep the whining to a minimum.  However, when you are trapped inside a car for 8 hours, there is no escape!  We will be going on vacation in a few days and I have been desperately trying to think of new ways to keep the girls occupied.  I have the normal books, crayons and paper, DVD's, Music, and even a few car games.   But even that is not enough to keep their attention for an entire 8 hours (without traffic).   So ladies, I'm counting on you and all your creative brilliance to help me out.  What do you do to keep your kids busy on those extremely long car rides?  How do you avoid hearing, "Are we there yet?" repeatedly?    Grab a Latte, Put Up Your Feet, and Join the Discussion!

If you don't have any of the "WeeSing" CD's, you should try them. You have to be ready to sing along with the kiddos though:) they will return you to your childhood!

We drive to Nebraska from Virginia twice a year--two kids and a dog so I definitely need to keep my sanity. Maybe you won't agree with this but I invested in tv's for the car and they are my life saver!! They watch Sesame, Disney and if they're extra good, we always buy a new one along the way. I bought mine at Target and they weren't that expensive but well worth every penny!! Good Luck!!

We just finished a trip that was 11 hours and our kids did great. I had sticker books for them that I'd found in the dollar section of the bookstore. They had their nintendo ds and a few new dvds that I'd found on sale. We also said that they could each have $10 but for every time they asked 'are we there yet?' or complained about the riding, they'd lose a $1. It worked great and the trip was so much better than I thought it would be. We also made sure to stop a few times and let them run run run!
Good luck on your trip!
