Open Discussion: Portrait Studios

Every mother loves getting professional photos taken of their little darlings, but no one loves paying the steep prices. Do you feel that the quality of your photos depends on the price? Would you be just as happy taking your child to the Wal-Mart portrait studios as you would taking them to the Picture People?

I think the quality of the picture depends on the person taking it, regardless of where they work. We've been to a bigger store (more known for picture taking) and the pictures we received were awful. The photographer did not know how to work with children and then got angry when we didn't want to buy the biggest package they had available.
I've been very happy with Portrait Innovations - our local one is very low pressure and they really work well with kids. If you need a break, they can take one and they have lots of creative ideas. I also have a friend who's a photography student and she is excellent at taking pictures of my children.

This is a hard one. I am a hobbyist photographer who does a few photoshoots on the side for friends and family. Honestly, I would have to answer yes, to a certain degree. I think once you hit a certain price range you start paying more for the artist than the art. I actually am going to be purchasing a sitting session with a local photographer soon and I have come to find that I am super particular, but I think it has more to do with me wanting a certain look/feel to my pictures than anything else.
