Flip Flop Wines Review

You may remember last month my family and I all got together for some Fun, Food, and Flip Flop Wine Tasting.  And in the spirit of this new brand from Underdog Merchants, we all wore our Flip Flops!  My family enjoyed the Pinot Noir, Riesling, and the Pinot Grigio.  When Flip Flop Wines sent me three new wines to try, I decided to share with a few close to me that hadn't yet tried it. I gave the bottle of Merlot to my older brother who shared it with his wife and her aunt.  I took the bottle of Chardonay to my in-laws when we went up for a visit. And I gave the bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon to my friend and neighbor who shared it with her husband and sister.
For those of you who don't remember, David Georges, the vintner of Flip Flop Wines, grew up in Southern California where the laid-back lifestyle included wearing flip flops most of the time.  He combined this laid-back style with his love for wines to create a "well-balanced wine that everyone can afford".  Unlike many inexpensive wines, Flip Flop Wines are top-notch.  For only $7 a bottle, you definitely aren't expecting the high quality that Flip Flop Wines deliver.

My brother and his wife's aunt couldn't say enough about the Merlot.   Her aunt, who is in her late 60's, said she had tried a lot of Merlot in her day but she needed to find out where they sold Flip Flop Merlot near her.  My brother said, "The merlot from Flip-Flop was very enjoyable. It paired well with my pasta. It had a great taste and a smooth finish that left me wanting a second glass. It is by far one of the best merlots that I have tasted. Thank you Flip-Flop Wines."  Sounds like the Merlot was a hit all around.

My Mother-in-law loved the Chardonnay despite the fact that she usually sticks to Riesling.  She said most Chardonnay's are too dry for her, but Flip Flop's Chardonnay was delicious and left a great taste in her mouth.

My friend and neighbor also had great things to say about the Cabernet Sauvignon.  She said that is was warm and smooth.  She loved that it didn't provide the acidic overload that some Cabernet's are guilty of.  She said that overall it was a great red wine and it was just what she needed to soothe her heart after the American Women's Soccer team lost the World Cup Final!!!

Now if it wasn't amazing enough that David Georges produced such a wonderful collection of wines at an affordable price, he has also teamed up with an amazing non-profit group, Soles4Souls.  Soles4Souls is a hard working organization that works on collecting used and new shoes for those in need.  "Shoes help prevent the spread of parasitic diseases that plague over 1.4 billion people worldwide, and they are basic human necessity".  For every bottle of wine purchased, Flip Flop Wines will donate one pair of shoes to someone in need.   Their goal is to donate 11 million shoes in 2011!   And you can help them out by trying out a bottle today!  Also feel free to join them on Facebook.   They are a friendly group and always have some great discussions going on.

Disclosure:  I received 3 bottles of wine in exchange for my honest review.  I was under no obligation to write a positive review.  All opinions are honest and my own.

Teen Dies Heroically

Have any of you heard the name Kira Goddard?  She was a 13-year old teenager who was recently killed while heroically saving her friends.  When she noticed an out-of-control SUV heading towards her friends she screamed for them to run and pushed them out of the way before they could get hurt.  Unfortunately for Kira, the SUV that was being driven by a mortally wounded ex-con, ran right into her and pinned her up against her own apartment building.  The driver, Sean Lewis, had been stabbed in the stomach over a money dispute. Please click on the link above for the whole story.

This is such a sad story.  With all the violence and sadness in the world, we sometimes find ourselves growing numb to it and some may even try to ignore it. Many tend to forget all the brave people in the world that try to make the world a better place.  Soldiers, police, firefighter, etc... However, when you read an article like this, it brings everything back into focus.  This little girl was one of those people who made the world a better place for that knew her.  And her final heroic act proved just how selfless she truly was.

How does Kira's story make you feel?  Do you tend to forget about the heroes that keep us safe?  Have you thanked one of them lately?  Grab a Latte, Put Up Your Feet, and Join the Discussion!

Erin Baker's Review and Giveaway

I am so excited to introduce you all to some wonderful products from Erin Baker's.   Erin Baker's sells wholesome and nutritious baked goods including Cookies For Breakfast!!!  You read that right...Cookies For Breakfast.  I can admit that I have wished to eat cookies for breakfast many times, but I never actually broke down and did it.  Now with Erin Baker's healthy breakfast cookie, I can have a treat in the morning and not feel guilty about it.

At Erin Baker's, the products are made fresh and all natural. They have a great selection of organic and vegan products as well.  Their delicious baked goods are made without preservatives, but due their special packaging, their cookies have a 90 shelf life.  And their granola can last up to 12 months, if the container remains unopened. However, if you purchase a large order, the cookies can be frozen for up to a year.  They defrost easily and freshen up nicely in the toaster oven or microwave.

Here's what Erin Baker has to say about her Original Breakfast Cookie:
The Original Breakfast Cookie is something you can feel good about eating. Baked fresh with heart-healthy whole grains and sweetened with fruit puree, our cookies combine the flavors we all love with a heartiness that satisfies for hours. Packed with protein, antioxidants, fiber and complex carbohydrates, it is a healthy and delicious way to start your day. Every Breakfast Cookie is handcrafted in our own bakery using the finest ingredients available. You can taste the exceptional quality in each bite. Taste one, or better yet, taste them all!

Erin Baker’s has eleven Original Breakfast Cookie flavors, including my favorite Caramel Apple and Fruit and Nut. Each cookie is 3 oz of moist deliciousness.   And the best part is, after one cookie and some fruit in the morning, I am not hungry again until around 12:30 in the afternoon. The fiber, protein, and complex carbs, create a filling breakfast option for those mornings on the run or just because you want something sweet. They also have miniature versions of their Breakfast cookies that are only 1 oz.   These are great for a quick healthy snack or if you aren't that hungry in the morning.

And let's not forget about their delicious Brownie Bites. I was able to sample their Chocolate Chip Mint Organic Brownie Bites and they were so good!  They were moist, sweet, and just the perfect size for a small dessert.  I loved them so much that I've already order 3 boxes, along with some Caramel Apple, Oatmeal Raisin, and Fruit and Nut Breakfast Cookies.

Check out Erin Baker's website for more products, including granola, and nutritional information.  And if you like what you see, why not come back her and try to win a sample kit to try some of their best selections.
