Recipe Corner: Molasses Cookies

Those who know me best know that cookies are my weakness. These molasses cookies are so soft and chewy, there is no way to just eat one.  I am trying to decide which type of cookies to bake for our cookie exchange and these are definitely in the running.

Do you have a mouthwatering recipe you would like to recommend? Shoot me an email at betweenthelines-kam@hotmail.com  and I can post it for all to enjoy!

Ingredients
• 3/4 cup margarine, melted
• 1 cup white sugar
• 1 egg
• 1/4 cup molasses
• 2 cups all-purpose flour
• 2 teaspoons baking soda
• 1/2 teaspoon salt
• 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
• 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves (I sometimes leave out the cloves and add extra cinnamon)
• 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
• 1/2 cup white sugar

Directions

1. In a medium bowl, mix together the melted margarine, 1 cup sugar, and egg until smooth. Stir in the molasses. Combine the flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, cloves, and ginger; blend into the molasses mixture. Cover, and chill dough for 1 hour.
2. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Roll dough into walnut sized balls, and roll them in the remaining white sugar. Place cookies 2 inches apart onto ungreased baking sheets.
3. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven, until tops are cracked. Cool on wire racks. (a few minutes less for chewy cookies and few minutes more for crispy cookies)

Winter Woes

I wrote about this topic last year when I had just started my blog, but now that I have so many new lovely readers, I'd love to hear your thoughts too.  My family and I dread winter every year. It’s not that we are bothered so much by the cold, or even the snow. What we dread each and every year is the dry skin season! Without fail, every November or December, red itchy patches of dry skin begin to form. We lather up with every “miracle” lotion available and pray for the promised results. I’ve even gone as far as sleeping with gloves on overly greasy hands. Yet somehow those tiny cracks still appear. Even the no-crack cream from Restoration Hardware (provided by my wonderful mother-in-law) couldn’t put a stop to the cracking. When our children were first born, we tried humidifiers in their rooms in hopes that a little added moisture might help. Sadly, the only thing the humidifier accomplished was ruining a few books.

I am sorry to say we have yet to find the solution that would make our winters more bearable. How many of you out there suffer from dry skin? How many of you have found your solution? Throw out your ideas and let’s cure those winter woes.

Grab a latte, put up your feet, and join the discussion!

Stephanie Gleichsner Bracelet Review and Giveaway

I am so so excited to introduce you all to Stephanie Gleichsner!  Stephanie Gleichsner is a wonderful high school friend that I found again through Facebook.  I was excited to discover that she had followed her dream of creating art and jewelry. Stephanie creates bracelets by using a variety of beads, from antique/vintage, faux semi-precious, cloisonne, African Trading, evil eye, and semi-precious stones.  Every semi-precious stone has metaphysical properties. These metaphysical properties are used to enhance one's life.

While browsing through Stephanie's website, the
Moss Opal & Silver Tone Beads from Bali caught my eye right away.  I loved the neutral colors, the smoothness of the stones, and the easy to use clasp.  Although I was unaware of the metaphysical properties of the stones when I chose it, I was certainly happy with what I learned when I received it.

Here are some properties of Opal:
-Inspiration which enhances the imagination and creativity.
-Releases inhibitions and enhances memory.
-Help one be ‘invisible’ in situations where they don’t care to be noticed.
-Bring happy dreams and easy the process of change.
-Clarifies by amplifying and mirroring feelings, buried emotions, desires. Results in less inhibition, more spontaneity, free visualization, clearer imagination, and more vivid dreams.

I love how this bracelet fits and matches almost everything. But if this isn't your style, never fear.  Stephanie has a great selection of jewelry that include Authentic Semiprecious Stone Bracelets with or without charms, Faux Semiprecious Stone Bracelets with or without charms, and Authentic Stone Necklaces and Bracelets.  As you browse through Stephanie's site, you will notice many of her bracelets have a small rose quartz, the "Love Stone", in them.  The Rose Quartz is her personal favorite and signature stone.  Her jewelery also includes spacer beads.  The spacer beads or accent beads, used between the main beads are either gold tone or silver tone. Many of these beads are from Bali, obtained at gem shows.  Many of Stephanie's bracelets stretch, as many of us are busy and it is much easier to slip one on rather than handling a clasp. Some of my bracelets also have charms. Stephanie loves charms that send positive reminders, such as Love or Miracles.

Stephanie is so excited about sharing her creations with you that she is offering one lucky reader of Between the Lines their choice of bracelets.  She looks forward to creating you something that will enhance your life.  Her bracelets would make wonderful Holiday gifts for those special ones on your list.  You can purchase them as-is or inquire about small changes, such as adding/removing a clasp, charm, etc... Or if you want to enhance a certain aspect of your life, let her know the aspect and she can suggest an appropriate bracelet.

Conair Review and Giveaway!

Great hairstyles start with a great brush! It’s a gift that will always be used.  And a necessity in a house with three girls.  My daughter's and I have always shared a brush, so I was thrilled to receive a couple brushes from Conair to review.  No more morning s fighting over a brush and everyone loves the new Conair Gel Grips Cushion Brush.  The Conair Gel Grips Cushion Brush conforms to the shape of your hand for easy styling, and the flexible cushion base prevents hair breakage.  I was so happy, and so were my daughters' heads, that they detangled hair more gently.  No more snags and getting their hair caught in the brush.  And the soft gel handle makes it easier on my hand that has to do three hair-dos every morning!

I also received the Conair Tourmaline Ceramic Small Porcupine Round Brush to review. The Conair Tourmaline Ceramic Small Porcupine Round Brush utilizes finely crushed tourmaline, a gemstone that naturally releases negative ions, infused into the nylon bristles and ceramic barrel of the brush. The ions tighten the cuticle layer and seal in natural oils, reducing static electricity, leaving hair shiny and silky.  This is an amazing brush to use while you are drying your hair.  It helps add the much needed body to my hair without creating the frizzy mess that usually is on my head during the winter months.

Conair brushes would make a wonderful stocking stuffer for all those girls on your holiday list.  It's a gift everyone will use...everyday!   Thanks to the generous people from Conair, one lucky reader of Between the Lines is going to win both brushes to keep for themselves or to use as Holiday Gifts!  If you are ready to go out and buy your own, the brushes are available nationwide at mass market and drug store retailers.

Mandatory Entry: Visit Conair and leave a comment about a product you's love to try.  Don't forget to leave your email address.
