Daddy Don't Go!

The hardest part about being a SAHM is watching your children break down when Daddy leaves.  My husband always works unusually long hours, but my girls know that they will at least be tucked into bed by Daddy.  Yesterday, however, my hubby found out he was going to be away for awhile on a business trip.  Last night the girls were upset and couldn't understand, but this morning nothing I said or did was of any help.  The tears flowed and flowed.  "Why Mommy!  Why can't he come home and kiss us?"   (insert heart breaking)  Under normal circumstance, this would be hard but doable.  It would only a few days and then things will be back to normal.  Unfortunately, I recently found out he will be leaving in a few months for a much longer period of time.  If the girls are having such a hard time dealing with a few days without Daddy, how are they going to handle 3-4 months without Daddy?  I guess only time will tell, but in the meantime, I need you wonderful mothers out there to start sending me activity ideas!   I need to keep these girls as busy as possible.

CoffeeCakes.com Review and Giveaway

I am so excited to have an opportunity to share my new love with you!  "CoffeeCakes.com (doing business as Majordomo’s) is a privately held company that markets specialty food and gourmet gift items exclusively on the Internet."  They sell a wide variety of desserts, coffees, and teas, but it is their Coffee Cake that now has my heart.  The friendly people from CoffeeCakes.com sent my family and I a coffee cake sampler to try.  The Coffee Cake Sampler included three full sized coffee cakes of our choice.
With so many yummy choices, it was definitely a hard decision.  In the end, we chose the No Walnut Cinnamon coffee Cake, the Apple Walnut Coffee Cake, and the Banana Walnut Coffee Cake.  Each of these delicious cakes arrived completely intact.  No crushed or crumbled cake.  Although it says on the box that they can be kept at room temperature for a week, we couldn't wait to try them, so we dug right in that evening after dinner.  I have to say that I have never eaten a coffee cake as moist as these.  From my first bite, I was hooked.  I think my favorite of the three was the Apple Walnut Coffee cake.  The dried apples gave it an extra bit of tang and sweetness.  My youngest daughter couldn't get enough of the Banana Walnut Coffee Cake and she was disappointed when I decided to freeze the rest of it.
CoffeeCakes.com states that you can freeze the cake for up to 120 days.  I have found that sometimes when you freeze baked goods, they don't always taste as good after you thaw them out.  So I had to freeze some of the cake for a few days to test it out.  It is hard to believe, but I actually think the cakes tasted better after being frozen.  So go ahead and order the sampler, save yourself some money, and freeze the cakes until your ready to eat them!  And with all orders over $50, you receive free shipping.

The generous people at CoffeeCakes.com is now offering one of you wonderful readers a chance to win your own Coffee Cake Sampler!  The winner will be able to choose the three cakes that they want and are not limited to my 3 choices.

Mandatory Entry:  Visit CoffeeCakes.com and let me know something that you would like to try besides coffee cake.  Please remember to include your email so I can contact you if you win.

Recipe Corner: Brigadeiro

Brigadeiro is a candy often eaten in Brazil.   Thanks to my wonderful sister-in-law, we now have a new delicious recipe to try.   I haven't made it myself yet, but I have eaten the end result.  Definitely worth a try. Thanks Camila!
Do you have a mouthwatering recipe you would like to recommend? Shoot me an email at betweenthelines-kam@hotmail.com and I can post it for all to enjoy!

Ingredients:

• 1 can of condensed milk
• 2-3 Tablespoons of chocolate powder or chocolate syrup
• 2 Tablespoons of butter
• Chocolate sprinkles
• Tiny paper candy cups

Directions:
• Combine ingredients in a pot and stir constantly over medium heat, bringing to a boil.
• Continue stirring about two mintutes - or until mixture thickens enough to coat the bottom of the pan.
• Remove from heat and carefully scoop hot mixture out of pot into a separate bowl to cool.
• Cool completely.
• Coat hands with butter and scoop out a teaspoon sized amount into the palm of your hand. Roll into a small ball, roll the ball in sprinkles and let rest in paper cup.

Choc Create Review and Giveaway

Are you all ready for another yummy giveaway?  Yes?!?   Well, then let me introduce you to Choccreate.com, Your Chocolate Your Way.    Choc Create is a very unique, and yummy, online business that makes the chocolate you create with love and care.   When I say you create it, I really mean you create it.  With 113 different ingredients, 3 different types of chocolate, and 1000's of different combinations, the possibilities are just about endless.
The generous people from Choc Create allowed me and my girls create three unique chocolate bars.  With so many possibilities, it was a very difficult decision.  However, I was thankful for the easy navigation of their site.   They have the ingredients split into different categories to allow you to search with ease.  The first chocolate bar we created was my version of my favorite oatmeal butterscotch cookie.  I started with a milk chocolate base and added in butterscotch chips, oatmeal, and cinnamon.   The cinnamon definitely gave the chocolate a unique flavor that was loved by all.   The second bar we created was left to the little ones.  It began with a white chocolate base and included Gummi Bears and Cocoa Nibs mix ins.  They loved it and would have eaten it all in one sitting if I had let them.  The third bar we created was by far my favorite.  It started with a white chocolate base and then I added in dried cherries, shredded coconut, and granola. I will admit that I didn't share much of this one.
I know you all will have a great time creating your very own chocolate masterpiece, but if you are ever unsure, Choc Create has some fun ideas just for you.  The picture above shows one of their custom creations that I will definitely be trying in the future. It is called Zora's Banana Split Chocolate. For $5.50, you receive a 3.5oz bar of Spectacular Gourmet German White Chocolate merged with Cocoa Nibs, chopped dried strawberries, Blanched CA Almond Slivers, all mixed in and topped with Dried light crisp Banana Chips. YUM!  While browsing their fun site, don't miss their Best Sellers, Healthy Choices, and Specials.

Thanks to the wonderful people from Choc Create, one of you lucky readers is going to win a $12 gift certificate to create your own chocolate bars!

Mandatory Entry:  Visit Choc Create and come back here and let me what Chocolate combination you would love to enjoy. Don't forget to leave your email address so I can contact you in case you win.
