Danimals Rally For Recess

Have you all heard about Rally For Recess?  Danimals is working hard to get our children active and healthy. I was so shocked that to hear that so many schools were eliminating recess time.  As a teacher, I know how important recess is for students to not only get some exercise and fresh air, but also to socialize and make their own choices.    I am very thankful that at our school they have kept daily recess as well as offering PE twice a week instead of one.  Read below to learn some interesting facts.

Schools nationwide are cutting recess time due to limited resources, which can impede on your children’s physical development.  In the past twenty years, children have lost an average of 8 hours of recess a week and some schools no longer provide play time for students.  According to the American Academy of Pediatricians, the lack of playtime is a national crisis leading to a growing epidemic; childhood obesity.

Government and public health agencies recommend children engage in at 60 minutes of mild to strenuous activity each day. iv To help rally moms and kids around this cause, Dannon® Danimals®, nutritious on-the-go dairy drinks and low-fat yogurts containing calcium for kids, is launching a national initiative called “Rally for Recess”.

“Rally for Recess” is designed to create healthy competition, pitting school against school! Five schools have the opportunity to win new playground equipment and an all-day recess celebration. Danimals is committed to childhood health and wellness, which starts with good nutrition and an active lifestyle. Through February 8, 2012 purchasers can find codes on Danimals packaging to enter and register. The top five schools in each of the categories with the most codes registered wins!

Hopefully you are as excited about this amazing opportunity and will share this information with your child's school.  And while you are at it, why not win your little one a branded soccer ball and branded drawstring bag to help them get even more exercise.  Just click on the link to go to the giveaway post and then get your kids away from the TV and moving! :)

Plasmacar Review and Giveaway

I am so excited to share another great product with you.  The PlasmaCar from PlaSmart is a ride on toy that is made for kids of all ages.  The PlasmaCar, with its sleek and innovative design runs without batteries, pedals, or tricky gears.  It actually run on 100% Kid Power.   You all know that your kiddos have loads of energy, right.   With the PlasmaCar they can burn off some off that energy, get some exercise, and have fun.  As they turn the wheel back and forth, they car will be propel forward through the natural forces of inertia, centrifugal force, gravity, and friction.

The PlasmaCar was a big hit with both of my daughters (and the neighborhood kids).  They loved that it was something new and different.  On their first attempts, they were a little discouraged.  They moved the steering wheel back and forth, but the car wasn't going very fast.  Luckily, the PlasmaCar is made out of such sturdy plastic that I could hop on it and show them how to maneuver the wheel to gain the most speed.   The PlasmaCar can actually hold up to 220 pounds on smooth, flat surfaces and up to 120 pounds on rough, flat surfaces.  Now that they have figured it out, they cruise around the cul de sac with no problem.  The hardest part is getting them to let me have a turn!

I couldn't get the video of of daughter riding the PlasmaCar to upload, but they have a great one for you to check out on their homepage that will show you just how fun and easy it is.  PlasmaCars retail for $69.95, but Amazon has them on sale right now for $54.59.  Thanks to the generous folks at PlaSmart, one lucky Follower of Between the Lines is going to win their very own PlasmaCar!  Good Luck!

Are You a Lurker?

A few weeks back I read a post about blog lurkers at Masshole Mommy that made me stop and think.  Most days I browse through my favorite blogs first thing in the morning or as I lay in bed before I go to sleep.  What I don't do as much I should, is leave comments to let them know that I stopped by or that I enjoyed their post.   Most times it is because I am reading their wonderful blogs on my iPad.  It make it easy to visit my favorite blogs wherever I am in the house, but it makes it really difficult to leave comments.   So in a sense, I am a blog lurker.  I am going to try to be better about leaving comments, but if you don't see my comment, that doesn't mean I wasn't there.

Are you a blog lurker?  Do you enjoy reading, but have a hard time remembering to comment?   Grab a latte, put up your feet, and join the discussion!

Rockboard Review and Giveaway!

Do your kids love to zip along on their bikes and scooters?   If they are anything like my kids, they love it.  And they were so thrilled when I discovered the Rockboard scooter and received one to review.   The Rockboard scooter is unlike any scooter that I've seen before.  It is so incredibly sturdy that even my husband and I were able to join in on the fun.  It actually can hold up to 200 lbs and remains steady.
The Rockboard scooter can act as a typical kick scooter, but it is the rocking that has my kids excited.  Where a typical kick scooter, you have to continously push with your foot to propel you, the Rockboard moves when it's rider simply rocks front to back.  It is really easy to use and a lot of fun.  My youngest, who is 5 years old and 38 pounds has a little trouble getting it started because it is heavier than your normal scooter.  But once she gets going, it is hard to get her off.   My 7 year old daughter (shown in the picture below) weighs only 10 pounds more, but she has no trouble with the Rockboard and loves how steady she feels when she is going fast.

Another great feature the Rockboard has is that it can fold up and fit in a nice carry bag.  This is great especially if you don't live on a cul de sac and want to take it somewhere safe to ride.  You can buy this amazing Rockboard scooter at Target.com for $199.99.  And if you have younger children like my 5 year old, check out the Mini Rockboards that are designed for children ages 5 and up.  They hold up to 90 lbs and are easier for the younger ones to use.   Just check out the little guy in the video below.  Doesn't it look fun??

Do want to win your own amazing Rockboard Scooter?   Well thanks to the generous folks at Rockboard one Lucky Follower will win their very own Rockboard.
