Give the Gift of Soda Stream this Holiday Season

Although my husband is the big soda drinker in our house, I love a good diet soda every once in awhile. I tend not to buy my favorites because I just enjoy it and he NEEDS it to get through the day. However, now thanks to my SodaStream, everyone can enjoy their favorites at the fraction of the cost and calories! I will admit that I am still excited about my SodaStream maker even though I've had it for a year. I have talked about it to all my family and friends and have encouraged them to go out and purchase one. For those of you unfamiliar with SodaStream, let me fill you in.

To create your own SodaStream system, you first must pick the Soda Maker that fits your needs the best. SodaStream offers 7 different Soda Makers. They basically serve the same purpose, but the more expensive models are stainless steel and/or provide dishwasher safe bottles. Once you’ve chosen your Soda Maker, it is time to choose your flavors. SodaStream provides such a great variety of flavors that you’ll definitely find some that you love. They offer regular and diet, but don’t let the regular fool you. SodaStream uses Splenda in their flavorings, so your calorie intake is significantly less than a regular can of soda. SodaStream is an "Active Green" product, meaning that consumers are actively reducing their CO2 footprint every time they make soda or sparkling water at home instead of buying it from the store. The more the system is used on a daily basis, the more CO2 footprint the user actively saves. (This differs from "Passive Green" products, which use green-friendly production processes, but their products are not inherently helping the consumers save on their daily footprint.)

According to the US Recycling Institute, more than 80% of bottles in the US do not get recycled and end up in landfills. Also, an estimated 4.7 million tons of greenhouse gas emissions were produced in the process of replacing the 134 billion bottles and cans not recycled in 2005.

And if saving your body and the environment is not enough, can I just tell you how great it tastes? The soda stream products taste as good as the popular soda brands and they cost a lot less. A single bottle of flavoring makes about 12 liters (33 cans) of soda starting at $4.99! My favorites so far are the lemonade, diet pink grapefruit (think Fresca), and root beer. My husband’s favorites have been cola and the energy drink (think Red Bull). SodaStream all sells MyFlavor Water Essence. Pour about ½ tsp into your glass of regular or sparkling water for a hint of flavor. My girls are in love with orange essence.
