Giggles! Music to My Ears!

The last few days, my girls have been going at it.  Despite being best friends, their arguments have been escalating.  I think the main reason is the heat.  I have been keeping them cooped up most of the last few weeks because it is just too miserable to go outside.  Of course, they had fun with their friends at camp last week, but that was only for three hours a day.  And a few days ago we went out in the early morning to play with sidewalk paint, but besides that, it has been inside.  With a heat index hovering 110, I figured they'd be safer battling each other rather than the sun.  Yesterday, I had just about had it with the arguing and whining.  I almost lost my temper, but I decided to use a different tactical approach.  I ran at them, snatched them up, and began spinning them and tickling them.   The house was soon filled with the sounds of giggling girls and all the tears had dried up.
My youngest daughter, ran to get the camera off the table, all while laughing hysterically.  She likes to take pictures of everything, but to catch her sister in a fit of laughter made her day!  Of course, my older daughter had to have a turn after that, so the tickling had to start all over again.  What do you do to distract upset your children?  Grab a latte, put up your feet, and join the discussion!

Ah yes, the art of distraction! Much better alternative to yelling and screaming. With the little ones, it's easier to do. I like to put a goofy song on and just blare it just to distract everyone and get them wiggling and shaking and dancing. Then they start begging for more music. Music works the best here. The older ones I just beat. Just kidding. The older ones just need to get away from the situation sometimes.

They always loved when I would talk to them in funny voices or accents!

How fun!

We play monster... being the mom of boys I am the monster and they run from me and then try to attack!

First let me say that was a great save - but how long can a tickle tatic last? Sooner or later I'd be force to seperate them until they could play nice.

I'll be interested in what the other mothers have to say about this though.

Haupi - Actually the tickling and pictures all sadness and arguing were forgotten. I definitely do separate them once in awhile, but this was just one of those whiny battles that you just have to let go.
